The President of the European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy (EAFJD) Kaspar Karampetian has extended his congratulations to Arayik Harutyunyan on his election as the President of the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh).
In the congratulatory letter, Karampetian wished the newly elected President success and outstanding achievements in his mandate. The EAFJD President reaffirmed the organization’s unconditional support for the people of Artsakh. He further emphasized the commitment of the EAFJD, as a European grassroots organization, to defend the inalienable fundamental human rights of the people of Artsakh, in particular the right to self-determination in important international fora, including the EU institutions.
“I am confident that the established high level of successful and fruitful cooperation of the EAFJD, its chapters across Europe with the authorities of Artsakh will continue also with the newly elected government. Our common goal is to build a strong and thriving Artsakh, break the geopolitical isolation imposed by Azerbaijan and achieve Artsakh’s international recognition,” stated Karampetian.
The EAFJD also warmly welcomes fact that the people of Artsakh once again reaffirmed their commitment to building a democratic society, by exercising their right to vote during the presidential and parliamentary elections of 31 March and 14 April, 2020.
Considering the crucial role of election observation in democracy-building and strengthening human rights, the EAFJD, as in 2015 and 2017, had planned to deploy an independent, international team of highly experienced short-term observers, following the OSCE/ODIHR methodology. Nevertheless, the observation mission had to be cancelled because of the global health emergency.
