The European Armenian Federation of Justice and Democracy (EAFJD) together with its committees in 14 European countries, supports and reaffirms the declaration of the democratically elected National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) issued on 22 May 2023.

Any control of Azerbaijan over the native Armenian people of Nagorno Karabakh inevitably means ethnic cleansing for them and loss of Armenian homeland of millennia.  We do emphasize that any international or interstate document which refers to the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic as a part of Azerbaijan is a violation of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia.

The right to self-determination for the Armenian people of Nagorno Karabakh equals to nothing less than their right to life.

No Armenian leader or foreign power can decide on the status of Nagorno Karabakh or the future of the native Armenian people of Nagorno-Karabakh/Artsakh, to the detriment of their right to life, dignity, safety, their will and suffocating their right to live as a free people.

Statement by the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh

Statement by Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan at today’s press conference where he confirmed his readiness to incorporate Artsakh into Azerbaijan caused great outrage and anger in the Republic of Artsakh.

In fact, with his commitment Nikol Pashinyan blatantly violates the provisions of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Armenia and the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia with regard to Artsakh, particularly the imperative principle of the July 8, 1992 decision of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Armenia to the effect that “it is unacceptable for the Republic of Armenia to consider any international or interstate document which refers to the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic as part of Azerbaijan”.

We reiterate that the status of Artsakh was determined by the people’s declaration of December 10, 1992 and no power has the right to repeal it.

Any statement by Nikol Pashinyan ignoring the sovereignty of the Republic of Artsakh, our people’s right to self-determination and the fact of its implementation, as well as any document drafted on its basis is unacceptable and worthless to us. Artsakh will never give up its firm path of struggle.

Deeply concerned about the current dangerous reality, the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh calls on all Armenians not to allow the current authorities of the Republic of Artsakh to take harmful steps to cede part of the Armenian homeland, the Republic of Artsakh and the sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia to Azerbaijan under the name of enclaves, which will inevitably lead to the loss of the Armenian statehood.

At the same time, we appeal to the former and current presidents of Armenia and Artsakh to condemn the statement made by Nikol Pashinyan on May 22, 2023. Otherwise, we will consider your silence as a sign of agreement with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia.
