The European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy (EAFJD) condemns Turkey’s incursion in north-east Syria and calls upon the European Union to take concrete steps to urge Turkey to halt its unilateral military offensive.

The international community must act to prevent another humanitarian crisis. Soft rhetoric and inaction will trigger another refugee flow and lead us to witnessing humanitarian suffering, massacre and deportation of the Kurdish majority, as well as Armenian and other minorities living in north-east Syria. The protracted instability and conflict in Syria has long destabilized the region. The international community has exerted much effort in putting end to hostilities, creating proper conditions for reconciliation and long-lasting peace in the Syrian soil. Yet again Turkish aggression will result in negative repercussions on the security and stability of the region.

The offensive undermines the peace efforts and endangers prospects for a sustainable solution to the Syrian conflict. Therefore we urge the European decision-makers to take action in order to cease the military actions initiated by the Turkish government.
